1) Please don't touch the monitor screens.
I know how cool it looks when you press on an LCD screen, but please don't do it. Touching LCDS can cause damage to the monitors.
2) Clean up after yourself.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen on purpose, but inevitably, trash gets left in the lab. There is a trash can directly outside in the hallway and recycling bins in the lab by the printer. Please remember to throw your trash away.
Also, if you spill something, go get the materials to clean it up. If you ask a proctor, we'd be happy to help you. We don't want the keyboards sticky either.
3) Classwork gets priority over Facebook.
Any UT student is welcome to use the computers for whatever they'd like within the guidelines of the UT Acceptable Use Policy. That means Facebook, email, and youtube are ok, but no porn, no illegal torrents, and no mass downloading!
However, if the lab is full and a group of students come in to work on a lab, and you're playing FarmTown on Facebook, we're going to ask you to leave.
It's nothing personal. Also, physics projects get priority over projects for other disciplines.
Don't let that scare you-- it's only an issue if the lab is super busy.
4) Push in your chair.

I know it's difficult to remember, but please push in your chair. 30% of our proctors have back problems.
5) Log out when you're done.
Forgetting to log out not only puts your information at risk, it puts your credibility on the line. If someone else gets on your computer and decides to defy the University's computer policy, it's your account that will be locked.
After about fifteen minutes, inactive computers will automatically lock. If we notice repeat offenders that don't log out, we will remove your EID from our servers for your own protection.
5) Don't download illegal content.
We won't epitomize our views on file sharing, but UT has a dangerous reputation. Here in the PMCL, you log in with your EID, and the university closely monitors bandwidth usage. Think about it.
If you download files illegally in the lab, (whether it's through RapidShare, MediaFire, or a client like uTorrent or Vuze), you will get caught, and you will feel the sinking sense of despair that only a University ITS Abuse email can bring. We've seen it happen.
